Currently, R. Lee Booten II now limits his practice to criminal cases, predominantly DUI and drug cases in State and Federal Courts. To the best of his knowledge, he is the only privately retained full-time criminal defense attorney in the Cabell, Wayne, Mason, Putnam and Lincoln County areas. So when you are considering a criminal defense attorney,  would you rather have an attorney who is a full-time criminal defense attorney, or a part-time defense attorney who handles many different types of legal matters such as civil cases, divorces, probate and/or bankruptcies?

 R. Lee Booten II is a lifelong Huntington, WV resident, other than his  3 years in Morgantown while attending WVU Law School. As of May 2022, he will have practiced law in Huntington 40 years.  His first job was for the City of Huntington as the Assistant City Attorney  from 1982-1985 in which his main role was City Prosecutor.  Back then almost all misdemeanor criminal charges were prosecuted in the City's Municipal Court, particularly DUI and simple possession drug cases.  Over3 years he learned that he took no satisfaction in prosecuting citizens and arguing for jail sentences, but that experience was invaluable lesson on how to deal with police officers. 

In 1985 he began his solo law practice and as with most young attorneys beginning their law practice, he began accepting appointed criminal cases  There was no Public Defender's office in Cabell County in the 80s so he handled hundreds of cases between 1986-1991. From those experiences of being a prosecutor, then being an appointed criminal defense attorney, he soon learned that being a criminal defense attorney was his passion and most successful area of practicing law.
